Maldives ASPA Perioperative Life Support Workshop
The Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Male
April 28th – 29th 2017

The Maldives Anaesthesiologists Association invited ASPA to return to Maldives to conduct a paediatric anaesthesia workshop. ASPA had previously in 2014 ran a Safe anaesthesia in children workshop.

The focus of the 2017 workshop is on perioperative emergencies; focusing on the prevention and management of perioperative crises. It consists of equipping talks, small group teaching with case discussions and skills stations. Topics include common crisis in recovery, recognition of the critically ill child, airway at risk, effective resuscitation and teamwork during crises.

ASPA Faculty consists of members who were part of the pioneering team who developed the concept of PPLS workshop. Many of the topics were used in this workshop.

45 doctors 84 nurses attended 2 day workshop. Two afternoon repeat sessions were set aside for the nurses, to facilitate those who were on duty to be able to attend.

The talks were generally kept to time. The faculty lead lively and interactive sessions during case discussions and skills stations in Male.

The feedback were all positive with some comments that it could have been longer.

The hosts; Drs Samah Haleem and his team did an excellent job in the organisation of the facilities and provisions of lunch and tea. The hospitality was warm

Thanks to the ASPA faculty who were not only self-funded but contributed their time and effort, to the success of the workshop
